A commercial cabling proposal should name the current ANSI/TIA document for each part of the plant, not a generic "TIA-568," and closeout should include certified test results, administration records, and as-builts that match those documents. There is no single "TIA-568-D" current revision. TIA split the old 568 series into a family of premises, copper, and fiber standards, and the copper document in force is ANSI/TIA-568.2-E (2024).

At closeout, require permanent-link certification reports, as-built pathway drawings, the administration class and labeling scheme, and bonding documentation. Current editions a commercial proposal should name
The table lists the published edition a buyer should expect to see named in a 2026 commercial scope. "TIA/EIA-568" is historical naming. EIA no longer publishes these documents. ANSI/TIA-606-E was still in recirculation ballot as of 19 June 2026, so 606-D remains the published administration standard.

Premise overlays apply on top of that family when the building type is not a generic office: ANSI/TIA-942-C for data centers (2024) and ANSI/TIA-1179-B for healthcare (2023) are the usual ones. ANSI/TIA-568.4 covers broadband coaxial. ANSI/TIA-568.5 covers single-pair cabling. ISO/IEC 11801 is the international counterpart, not a TIA replacement. BICSI's TDMM is a methods manual. It is not the performance standard a certifier compares a permanent link against.
Cable listing, firestopping, and communications-circuit rules come from NFPA 70 (NEC) as adopted by the authority having jurisdiction. Arizona and city amendments can lag the latest NFPA edition. The permit set, not a blog post, is the code of record. TIA publishes the family at the TIA standards program and sells the PDFs from the TIA store.
Terminology that should appear on a proposal
These terms come from the public scopes of the documents above. If a bid uses none of them, the contractor is selling labor, not a standards-based plant.
- Permanent link vs channel. The permanent link is the installed horizontal cable plus connecting hardware, without user patch cords. The channel is the complete end-to-end path including cords. Certification for warranty is almost always a permanent-link test against the named category in ANSI/TIA-568.2-E (copper) or the fiber tests in ANSI/TIA-568.3-E. Continuity or a ping is not that test.
- 90 m plus cordage. TIA FOTC's 568.0-E summary describes channels built around the equivalent of 90 m of permanent-link cable plus 10 m of cordage, with insertion-loss de-rating so thinner cords can be used. A bid that quotes "100 m of Cat6" without distinguishing link from channel is incomplete.
- Cabling Subsystem 1. Horizontal cabling from the telecommunications room to the work area or a horizontal connection point. Subsystems 2 and 3 are backbone. 568.1-E is the commercial-building topology. 568.2-E and 568.3-E are the media.
- Work area, telecommunications room (TR), equipment room (ER), entrance facility (EF). These are the spaces 569-E sizes and conditions. "IDF" and "MDF" are trade shorthand for TR and ER. They are not a substitute for naming the 569-E spaces in the drawing set.
- Administration class. ANSI/TIA-606-D specifies four classes: Class 1 for a premises served by a single equipment room, Class 2 for a single building with one or more telecommunications spaces, Class 3 for a campus including outside plant, Class 4 for a multi-campus system. Ask which class the labeling scheme is built to.
- Wireless access point cabling. TIA FOTC lists, as a significant 568.0-E change, a recommendation that two Category 6A or higher runs be deployed to each wireless access point. That is a design check, not a Cat6 vs Cat6A product comparison. Category selection itself is on Cat6 vs Cat6A.
- Remote powering. 568.2-E incorporates 568.2-D-2 power-delivery content (Siemon summarizes it as Annex H). 569-E already added pathway considerations for remote powering. If the job carries PoE, the proposal should name those documents, not only a cable category.
Closeout deliverables mapped to the governing document
Standards compliance is a packet of files, not a sentence in the proposal. This is the minimum a commercial buyer should collect before paying retainage.
